Layka was a US military dog and was serving in Afghanistan when she was shot four times at close range. Despite the near-fatal injuries, she also was attacked and subdued the shooter, thus saving the lives of his coach, Sgt Julian McDonald, and other team members.
She went through a surgery that lasted seven hours and had a leg amputated. McDonald fought hard to adopt her and now the german shepherd became part of his family.
“I owe her every moment that I now have with my children, with my mother and all my family” See the history of this incredibly brave military dog!
